Mission Statement
The Holy Land Christian Society (HLCS) is a registered 501
(c) (3) tax-deductible non-profit organization dedicated to
supporting the diminishing Christian community and their institutions
in the Holy Land. One of HLCS' guiding principles is that
a comprehensive Middle East peace is the best way to address
the plight and security of Christians in the Holy Land. Until
this peace is achieved, HLCS seeks to raise awareness about
the situation, advocate for peace and enhance the quality
of life of Christians living in the Holy Land.
HLCS was founded in 2003 in response to the growing pressure
on the declining Christian minority as a result of the ongoing
Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The biggest challenges have
been political instability and extremism, economic hardship,
housing shortages and less religious freedom. While, HLCS
is cognizant that these challenges affect all the inhabitants
of the area, including Jews and Muslims, the work of the
HLCS focuses on the consequences affecting the Christian
narrative.
HLCS projects aims to ameliorate these challenges through
enhancing the quality of life for Palestinian Christians.
In addition, to the most basic charitable needs, HLCS assistance
targets education, economic development, and support for
clergy and their places of worship. Financial assistance
is carefully routed through trusted partners in order to
ensure complete transparency and accountability of all donations.
Furthermore, minimal administration costs guarantee that
funds yield the greatest benefit to those receiving HLCS
assistance.
HLCS is planting seeds of hope and peace in the generations
to come by emphasizing the importance of education. Student
scholarships to elementary, secondary and high school students
help to empower the youth in their efforts to build sustainable
futures in the land of their roots. Through generous tax-deductible
donations provided to HLCS, a total of $61,000 has been
awarded to 300 students in Bethlehem and Aboud for this
purpose.
HLCS is working to increase economic opportunity for the
Christian community through the "Microfinance Initiative."
Loans distributed to advance professional development, improve
living conditions and increase access to private education.
Since 2006 a total of $15,000 has been provided in this
effort.
HLCS supports clergy and places of worship through funding
renovation projects in local churches that employ parish
member workers as a way to inject economic assistance into
their communities. Most recently, HLCS provided funds to
renovate St. Joseph's Church in Bethlehem, the scene where
Joseph and Mary fled with the baby Jesus to Egypt.
HLCS provides moral support by working directly with Christian
families in the Holy Land. Through this experience, HLCS
has made many invaluable family-to-family relationships
and has gained the trust of their communities in Bethlehem
and Aboud. HLCS is currently expanding its outreach on the
ground in order to help more people in more towns.
In the United States, HLCS members raise awareness and
advocate for peace through education. We provide accurate,
up-to-date information to the public and U.S. Government
officials to help ensure appropriate decision making on
foreign policy related to the Holy Land.
